There’s something for one and all here at Luosto Horse farm. For the experienced riders a riding tour through the forests, and for all others a selection of tours featuring Lappish handicrafts, camp fire experiences and wagon rides.
Camp fire entertainment
Here we are in the great outdoors to enjoy an evening of fun and conviviality. Our evening commences with a transfer to the horse farm where one is welcomed with homemade berry juice in a wooden tepee by a campfire.
We undertake a stroll through the forest, our hosts having provided us with small baskets in which to collect some of the herbs, spices and berries that are prevalent there. This walk along easy going forest paths is fully escorted and the guide will explain many details of the surrounding nature. In due course the party will be collected by horse drawn wagons to bring us back to the horse farm. For those of you who would like to sample a warm footbath made from local plants this will be provided on arrival back at the farm- a truly local experience said to bring personal comfort for everybody. Around the camp fire we will join together to prepare an outdoor feast with fresh
salted fish smoked in a box over the fire whilst foiled potatoes will be baked on live coals. A vegetarian or meat alternative will be provided if pre-booked. Our appetizer will be vegetable skewers prepared over the open fire and for dessert fresh pancakes with sugar, lemon or cream. During the berry season the collected arctic berries will be added to this special dessert. A local accordion player, or similar musician, will join the party to provide that extra special musical touch to our camp fire meal.

Lappish handicrafts
Why not spend and afternoon at our local horse farm making several personalised gifts for the folks back home. You will be transferred to the horse farm where you will be welcomed and introduced to felting. The local wool farmer will have delivered supplies which have already been teased out and under supervision you will by using water soap and wool prepare a small personal souvenir. Your work having been completed you will be rewarded with a fun horse and carriage ride through the forests. We walk across a small dry creek to the Reindeer Farm where you will make your own personal amulet from reindeer horn. Most people do not appreciate that reindeer do drop their horns each year growing new and larger ones, so there is no cruelty in the usage of the reindeer horn. Each participant will be provided with tools to carve their own mark to the horns. Whilst making the horns, coffee and small cakes are served within a traditional style tepee. Then it’s back to the wagons and a short direct routing for our return to the Horse Farm from whence your taxi will whisk you back to Luosto.

Riding Tour
Enjoy a one and a half hour riding tour in the forest with transfers provided to and from the horse farm. A maximum number of 4 riders at any one time. Additional departures will be arranged on the same day according to need.You should have previous riding experience, be able to ride in all gaits and control a horse well. You will be rewarded with a stunning wilderness experience. On your return to the farm enjoy a picnic with your guide around the campfire.

Chuck Wagon Supper
Another evening to relax and enjoy that beautiful slow pace of life that represents Lapland - a far cry from the hustle and bustle of our normal daily lives. Departing to the horse farm by taxi we are met on arrival and receive a welcoming drink of homemade berry juice by a tepee. Escorted by our guide we amble into the forest for a gentle introduction to the fruits of the forest ranging from herbs and leaf teas to beautiful berries and mushrooms that abound in this natural paradise. Soon we will encounter our horse wagons which at gentle pace will transfer us to the riverside for our evening repast.
Whilst awaiting the preparation of our dinner, which includes wine, beer and coffee with brandy as appropriate imbibements, we join our Kitinen river boats for a short cruise upon the river. Upon our return our feast awaits. What more appropriate than vegetable soup spiced with the Lappish herb Angelica Arcangelica with homemade bread, glow fried salmon with baked potatoes and creamed mushrooms and an assortment of berries with whipped cream!
Around the campfire that has been prepared by the riverside there is much opportunity to recount stories of past time whilst enjoying your feast which as a result of means of its preparation will taste very special indeed. Should anyone wish to try and catch a fish the opportunity will be provided by the horse farm host. In due course a return to Luosto will be provided by taxi.
